Q&A &

About Me

If you work out of your home, how do you accommodate a large wedding?

I have four additional designers I can call on to help with large weddings when needed.  I own a very large floral cooler and I also utilize  cooler space from my flower wholesaler.  This insures that your flowers and arrangements are kept at the proper temperature and humidity, and  free from harmful gasses.

What if I want to provide some of the arrangements?

This is a very good way for you to save money. I will help you acquire any of the materials you’ll need and provide any assistance necessary.

Where did you receive your training?

My original training was received from an Australian floral academy.  This Australian/European style is still apparent in my designs. Along with the basics of design, I learned superb mechanics or “how to put it together—to keep it together— so no one sees it”.  I honed my skills at a prominent Indianapolis floral retailer and continue to attend seminars and classes today.  If I notice a spectacular flower arrangement in a magazine, on tv, on the net, wherever; I can’t wait to duplicate it!

What are the best ways to stretch my wedding floral budget?

One way is to pick one, two or three focal flowers and use them exclusively in your designs. Few flowers are purchased per stem, roses for example, are sold only in packages of 25.  If all your bouts, corsages, and arrangements contain the same flowers there is a cohesiveness to the look, along with being more practical.  The smaller the wedding, the more important this point becomes. Another good way to stretch your budget is to try to have a dual purpose for each arrangement.  Altar arrangements can be used on the buffet table, pew arrangements can double as centerpieces, bridesmaids’ bouquets look beautiful as table decoration, the unity candle is perfect for the head table, etc. This does require someone to move these pieces from one location to the other however.  Most importantly, let your florist help with ideas for all your decorations.   A florist who truly cares about your wedding will find many selections for you to choose from to capture the look you want at the price you can afford whether that selection includes flowers, candles, ribbon, etc.

Why do you specialize in floral arrangements for weddings and special events?

Besides the joy surrounding weddings and special occasions, the planning phase of an event is as fun for me as the designing and delivering of the floral arrangements.  I love collaborating with the bride or hostess to find the personality to be reflected in the floral arrangements.  I enjoy working with my wholesalers to find the perfect flowers and then timing their arrival so that they are at their optimum for the big event.  I love the time and attention to detail that goes into floral arrangements for weddings and special events and these are things that are not found in the normal retail floral business.
